As I mentioned in my last post, the summer is a great time to get "some writing and study done." Along with working in the office, I've been writing some spots for KBVM radio about the Fathers of the Church, and also getting underway with my Master's studies through the College of the Humanities and Sciences.
The radio spots are an exciting project. I met the program director at KBVM a few months ago, and he proposed a series of three-minute spots highlighting the lives of the Fathers. Since I have a background in history and a strong interest in radio, I jumped at the opportunity. I checked out six or seven books at the library, and started reading. My first four spots are written and will be recorded next week: St. Clement of Rome, St. Ignatius of Antioch, St. Polycarp of Smyrna, and The Shepherd of Hermas. I expect to write and record about 50 of these spots, which will run in rotation for a week at a time each.
My Master's studies are going well. I have my first pages of work available over at An Annotated Education, which is the blog that I've set up to accompany my studies. The first discussion with my tutor takes place on Tuesday night.
My Seattle Mariners are the best team in baseball, which is a delightful fact. Last weekend's 2-1 series against the best team in the NL, the Braves, was exciting baseball, and perhaps even a preview of October. Could this be the M's season?
